Students will identify the basic characteristics of organisms including prokaryotic or eukaryotic, unicellular or multicellular, autotrophic or heterotrotrophic, and mode of reproduction, that classify them in the currently recognized kingdoms.
There are many organisms on our earth that 6th grade students do not know about. When they are able to see them alive and with their own eyes, it makes these organisms real for them and definitely makes them stick in their memory.
The materials for this study allow the students to learn in a way that they have not previously utilized. Microscopes allow students to see a new level of life and make abstract concepts real. The skills they learn during this unit will be useful to them as they progress through their studies in life science and biology.
